Axle joint not sitting flush with seal

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I just replaced both my rear wheel bearings with NTN bearings. I was tightening my axle nut and realized that it was not tightening as far back as it should with the CV joint. As you can see in the photos, the axle joint is not sitting flush with the outer bearing seal. I didn't do anything different when I was putting things back together on the other side so I am very confused. I just want all four wheels back on the ground again! Any ideas on what this might be?

Pic not working for me.

Only thing I can think of is the bearing or hub is not fully seated, or the seal is in the way of the drive shaft.

Cheers

What vehicle is this for?

Both sides are doing this or just one?

if both then I’d wonder if the new bearings are wrong?

damaged Or rusty splines on axle or inside hubs can cause the axle to hang internally.  But if you were giving it “axle nut torque” I’d expect it to pull through. How much torque ?
