Neutral Switch - 1991 Subaru Legacy

Featured Replies

Hey everyone. I recently replaced my reverse light switch and while I have the transmission fluid out I thought I would check that my neutral switch is working. Is there an easy way to check if it is working? Does it matter if it isn't working? Or does it send inputs to the ECU in neutral?

You can hook up a multimeter to the connector.  It's either OL - Open or 0.0 - Closed for ohms.

Yes it does input to the ECU, slight impact on idle RPM.

The two connectors are right on the back of the engine as they come up from the trans.  Little 2 pin connector.  Gray and Brown if my memory is correct.  One for Reverse and the other Neutral.

The brown is the neutral position switch.

Separate at the top of the tranny the resistance of the switch should be more than 1Mohm.

O.
