2002 legacy outback wagon, low idle, overheating

Featured Replies

When I start car the idle is so low it dies, this just started aboutn2 weeks ago. Has happened 3 orb4 times. Today it actually died while driving.  I was at a light giving it a little gas to keep it running and I noticed steam coming from hood and I smelled sweat smell like antifreeze. The gauge did not show it was over heating or hot.

About 3 or 4 weeks ago the upper radiator hose blew out. It was old , and split.

I replaced it and haven't had any noticeable issues.

Any ideas on what is going on, or where I should start?

kinda seems like 2 different issues but, perhaps some coolant is shorting-out the high voltage? maybe spray the coil and wires and spark plug tube holes with wd-40, it can displace water.

There are 2 small coolant lines that go to the throttle body.  Check those.

Your low idle could be due to a failed coolant temp sensor.  On top of the block in the crossover manifold for the coolant.  Passenger side under the intake on the back side.
