ignition coil 2008 OB alt to SOA?

Featured Replies

When cold and humid conditions are just right, I get misfire cylinder #3.

Moved ignition wires around and the fault stays with cylinder #3.

If coil fails, can it be just 1 cylinder or is there usually a crossover/share?

No sparkle light show if I spray water in the area.

If replacing, is there a reliable alternative to SOA at ~$120?

good used would be an appropriate choice here.. car-part.com

coils dont fail that often to preclude the used option.

and yes, you can have a failure on just one cylinder

Have you done your due diligence with dielectric grease?

hmmm, thanks for the reminder. I'll do that first.

Had the problem last year and just removed and reseated connectors and all was good but yesterday had Billy Buckaroo after sitting in a cold damp garage for a few days.

We don't get those kind of cold+damp conditions here often (it's generally too dry), but I've occasionally had the problem with condensation and consistently solved it with a fresh coat.

Also, do take the time to thoroughly clean wherever arcing has been noted, because it'll usually create carbon tracks that reinforce the problem.
