July 26, 200421 yr Well while hunting for a heater core for under $250. I realized that the tie rod ends on my 1998 Legacy L wagon, EJ22, A/T, 133k are shot. When the car is not running and I turn the wheel in either direction I get a creaking sound from the front end. The Beck-Arnley replacments are $55 a peice and do not have Zerk fittings!!! Anyone know a better option?? Joel
July 27, 200421 yr Author No one on here has replaced the tie-rods on this new a Roo?? Could it be the inners then?? Or the ball joints?? Joel
August 1, 200421 yr Author How do I know the tie-rods are shot?? The dust boots on each is in good shape with no tears and is plump and full of grease??? Couls it be the RACK!!!
August 1, 200421 yr I replaced one on my 91 Legacy, but that was because I screwed the old one up. $55 for aftermarket??? The OEM ones are like $40!! Does it make the sound when the car is running? If not I wouldn't even worry about it...

May 2, 200520 yr Author Well I went for NH inspection today and he confirmed my fear drivers side, inner tie rod has to much play in it. That is why my steeing wheel in shaking above 65MPH. Only one I found from subaruparts online is $65. Anyone found a inner tie-rod for less? How had is it to replace, I know I will need a alignment after words. I have 150k should I replace the inner and outer tie-rods on both sides now?

You'll notice a bigger improvement in the steering of your wagon and you'll only need to do the alignment once.
May 2, 200520 yr On other cars I've found complete rod and end assemblies as cheap as ends separate. Much easier job that way. Does anyone sell the assemblies for these cars?
