August 15, 200421 yr My Tach and my fuel gauge intermittently go out at the same time but my speedo and temp are fine (this for a '90 Legacy). Is this a bad connector? How far under the dash might it be? any ideas? Thanks all!
August 16, 200421 yr Author Anybody know where this offending connector is at? Is there a DIY out there for how to take this part of the dash apart? bump...
August 21, 200421 yr Author bump.... I want to take the dash apart and see if I can find a connector that might be the problem. To recap, about a 1/2 the time my tach and my fuel gauge go out (at the same time). Does anyone out there have experience getting to the gauges? This vehicle is a '90 and I really don't want to break any plastic clips or what not. Thanks.
August 23, 200421 yr Author bump... okay, that is the last time, I promise....anybody taken the dash apart on a 1st gen? Anybody? Hmmmm?
January 6, 200917 yr Anyone have problems with the actual needles getting stuck? My speedo failed a while back, which is common with '99 GTs. However, now my temp and tach get stuck and don't read properly. Its almost as if the motors that power them are wearing out. The tach works for a bit and the will only read above 2500 RPMs. Any have this?
January 7, 200917 yr slegacy96- the only thing i can relate to with your problem...is My tach went out a while ago on my 96 Legacy (198,000 miles)read the wrong RPM I guess you can kind of say it was stuck between like 1000-4000 RPM...its super easy to pull the cluster and just replace the tach head out of a donor car.... i think in total its 11 phillips screws ( 4 in bezel around cluster, 4 holding cluster in, 3 holding tach in) and like 4 electrical connectors...If you have a known good cluster you could always take a few min. and swap the gauges over.....also if you replaced the speedo and now that works perfectly..i would def. suspect the gauges themselves over a connector/wire however it obviously cant hurt to make sure there fully plugged in and not gummed up with anything....
January 7, 200917 yr Yeah, Ive got another set, I just don't feel like taking the whole cluster apart and putting it back together. Especially with temps. in the teens.
