Is there any way to get more suspension travel on a 85 4x4 wagon. Like shocks with longer stoke or different strut setup etc. Has anyone ever lowered gear ratios for larger tires.

the "transfer case mod", is about the only way to lower gearing for bigger tires.

 

gotta get a lift to get more travel afaik, but a lift alone doesnt help afaik

Ok, I see the repair & mod column sorry!

in the front you dont have room to get anything more without a lift, and most of the extra travel you can have is uptravel. A few people have made struts with longer travel shock inserts. In the rear, you can make double doj axles, custom coilovers and get about 9-10" travel max.
