the blower motor is good, also the resistor pack is good, i ran a wire from the green/white wire to fuse box [ 15 amp fuse] all 4 speeds work and heat, but i noticed that my battery gauge reads below 12 volts, it always read right at 12 before , and everything is moving slowly , wipers, windows, , so did i cause a new problem ? or is there something else wrong ? or should i put the wire coming from the green/ whire to a 20 amp fuse ?

Check the voltage at the battery with a voltmeter and see if that reads the same as your gauge does. There may be a bad ground wire connection, connection at the battery, bad fusible link connection, or a problem with the main accessory power wire from the battery causing this.

 

To prove a bad ground wire connection you can place a long jumper lead from the battery ground to suspected areas. If things improve then you know the area you need to look into. You can also do that with the positive side but you should place a fuse in the line in case you touch someplace you shouldn't.

 

I would think that the blower motor wouldn't require more than 10 amps to run so using a 15 amp fuse would be good. I would try to find out where the problem is with the original wire.

well it started right up , i dove it about 5 mi and it started to loose power ,just with the headlights on , i barely made it home , battery gauge was bottomed out , so i found a problem the hot wiring going to the alt, fixed that , but of course by this time the battery is dead , got a jump start , [ it is a very cold rain] car started , but alt is bad now , all the bottom lights are on, [ oil, brake, etc... ] so i looked around for a different alt , but all my spares are junk , the smaller type will not work , so i got mad , and put it all back togather , started it and parked it over to 1 side of the gravel , the auto stores around here have to order all my parts , [ wait till spring]

You've been going thru way too many alternators in that car. I wouldn't put another one in until you figure out why they keep frying out.

 

I would take a good look at the entire charging circuit, especially grounds as Cougar stated above. It's also possible that something is connected to chassis ground that should be hooked up to a positive terminal on the alt, coil or battery.

 

It's gotta be something simple. An automotive electrical shop should be able to track it down pretty quick if you get stumped.

The problem with the alternators may have been due to the poor connection to the battery. This would cause the alternator to work harder.

 

A good test to do while there is a good load on the battery and the engine running aound 2,000 rpm is to check the voltage drop between the alternator output and the positive battery post. If things are good, you should see less than 0.15 volts drop across the wire. You can also check the ground wiring the same way.

no JOHN ,it is the sedan , it is the first problem i have had in 3 years since i got the car ,the other 2 are running ok, i have never pulled the motor from the sedan or any major work done, besides timming belts, front seals , exhaust , tires, the spare alt i have [1] will only fit the turbo wagon
