December 4, 200421 yr I found some GR-2 rear struts for a 2WD legacy, will they work on AWD? What is the difference? I couldn't find detailed info in the FSM. Thanks

Thanks The AWD lower strut mount mounts to the wheel hub. On the FWD model the wheel hub has no axel going through it and so it is designed differntly. Before replying I checked the parts diagram and pricing for a wagon. Rear struts for the AWD model were cheaper than struts for the FWD model. Can't tell you why unless there is a much larger demand for AWD struts than FWD struts thereby more supply? Maybe because of a lunar phase? Who knows why when it comes to parts! Good luck
December 4, 200421 yr In Australia, all the 4wds had airbag suspension, so the only wagons which required new rear struts were 2wds like mine. I have only replaced the fronts though, at around 220,000km. The rears still seem OK 4 years later!
December 4, 200421 yr The difference is in the length of the strut body. As mentioned the FWD does not have an axle going through the center and the lower strut mount point is lower then the AWD mount point.
