1981 suspension adjustment for rear and front end.

Featured Replies

I know that their are a couple nuts on the 81 GL that control the hieght of the rear and front end, but where are they. I need to get the tallest I can out of the suspension.

the front struts adjust with two nuts on the bottom of the lower spring collar.

you could have them, but after many many years, most have been changed to non adjustable ones.

the rear is a torsion bar and its got a nut you can turn to raise the rear.

If you have a wagon, lift your rear seat up. Then you'll see a rubber cap that you remove. After you remove that cap, you'll find a 17mm nut that you can turn. This adjusts your rear torsion bar.

For the front, there are 2 bolts on each Strut. Just under your spring. YOu can use a 19mm wrench to adjust them. Its a pain in the rump roast since those bolts probably see more dirt and road grime than anyother peice of your car.

You wont get much more than 1.5" out of the adjustment.

Amplification: Rubber cap is near the centerline of the car.

Clarification, the strut nuts are 21mm and the rear torsion bar bolt is 19mm.

i made a special tool for the front, its a giant 21mm wrench with the box end wrapped in duct tape. use antisieze, or penetrating lube, i broke one once, and had to weld it.
