phishy75
Well I'm not really pulling it, but I need to lift the motor a couple of inches in order to get the exhaust up pipe on ('85 3AT EA82T). There isn't enough room to feed the pipe through with the motor in place. I tried unbolting the two mounts form the crossmember, but the whole car lifts. Do I need to disconnect the tranny just to life a couple of inches? cheers
subynut
prolly need to unbolt the rear tranny mounts and the pitching stopper. Might be enough to squeeze it by.
NorthWet
The mount bolts are slightly splayed, and tend to grab the crossmember even when everything is disconnected. I helped to pull an engine/tranny combo a couple weeks ago where there was nothing holding the combo except the undone motor mounts... lifted the whole car. We ended up putting a jack under the tranny and tilting it up (it had been drooping a little) as far as it would go, and then things popped loose with a little horsing around. Keep at it, but don't do anything dangerous. Pat
phishy75
I thought of that too - tapped the mounts out a little before jacking to make sure they didn't catch but still no go. Any other ideas? The mount bolts are slightly splayed, and tend to grab the crossmember even when everything is disconnected. Vanislru
It must be catching on something, I haven't had any probs, is your jacking point to far back? Try jacking on the oilpan[gently with wood underneath] shouldn't take much lifting force. Are you going to run the ghetto 2" DP too?
phishy75
I've tried back between the CV's, as well as the oil pan with wood under - both still lift the whole deal. Gettin a bit frustrated, but I'll keep on plugin away. I'm gunna keep the cat on for now 'cause I don't have the $$ to get the rest from teh DP back (Xmas and all ya know). Besides - it's the wifes car, and she wouldn't fully appreciate it anyway:rolleyes: It must be catching on something, I haven't had any probs, is your jacking point to far back? WJM
have the car up about 2 ft on jack stands on the front. Then...you should be able to rotate the crossover pipe enough to get it out w/out having to lift the engine at all. Ive never had to lift the engine to get the pipes in and out, even the TWE stuff. But, if you must, unbolt the turbo side engine mount, and jack that one side up.
