  1. Well over a year on my high comp turbo ea82, and alot of that is abusive 4 wheeling pushing 29" tires around.
  2. I hooked both turbo's up to my electric leaf blowers exhaust and then measured the air flow each turbo generated. The Td04 moved way more air and spooled quicker. Much better turbine. If only I could find the time to swap it on.
  3. Not worried about the turbo itself, if it's really hot the snailshell on the hotside might crack at the worst. BUT if there's any stress on the header and it's really hot and then submerged it could crack at the flange to the turbo. Happened once to me but my exhaust was all fubared from sliding on it. The stainless TWE header and DP are solid and show no signs of fatigue. Get a parts car, or 3 heh, that's my advice.
  4. Pics of my 4 " lifted turbo wagon, more in the user gallery.Do it, turbo's are great offroad, no exhaust header in the way and the extra power helps on the way to the trails.
  5. I've had a few trannies that do that, 2 of them improved when I added thicker gear oil with some additive to help it move around at low temps. But you probly don't need that so maybe try some thicker oil when you get a chance?
  6. It's probly OK. On my way back from a surf trip I started to hear a knock. It got worse, much worse. With all my gear in the car there was no way I was leaving it on the side of the road. The last 20 km to my house I was on 3 cylinders with a horrible racket. A piston and connecting rod had been at each other for over a 150 km's! that's about a 100 miles. After swapping the motor out I took the oil pan off and what a mess. LARGE junks of Al. everywhere, pickup strainer was mostly clogged but the oil filter wasn't too bad. The turbo was/is fine, and I know this motor was chewing metal alot longer than 100 miles or so. Long story I know but a happy ending for the turbo. Probly for yours too.
  7. Yeah, I think that's why it's so popular to swap the Td04 or similar (mitsu?) turbo's at the same time with their 90 degree rotated outlet's.
  8. Uhm well I was going to PM you a response but hey I love a bit drama.. Take another look at that post, like I said I'm not about to go an dyno my subies just for the sake of telling others what #'s I had on such and such date. I'll take that money and spend it on my kids thanks. I was pointing out that to "tune" a car doesn't mean you need a dyno and that there is a difference between a #'s run and "tuning" in more than just dollars. Understand? I have no clue? don't diss? werd... .
  9. I take mine up to 7500 rpm fairly often, #'s? I'd estimate a realistic 180chp tho I'm sure it'd dyno a bit higher... Caboobaru are you sure you need the nissan injectors? I really need a DP for my TD04 I see WJM has a stromung for sale but it's got a divorced wastegate and I want a bellmouth. Volume is where it's at.
  10. I've spent a fair bit of money on my subies over the years, my legacy ej22t w/mods is pretty damn fast. Personally I think the posts talking about dyno's and tuning have come off sounding like you have little experience with "tuning". Sure I can head down island and dyno my car, hook up the wide band and tune it for whatever the desired result may be but the bottom line is if you have experience and don't care to have #'s to talk about it's not needed. If I dyno'd every car every time I did a mod I'd be broke. I can tell whether I'm rich, lean, or stoich.. That's mostly what you'll get for couple hun. buck around here, oh yeah and bragging #'s. "Tuning" costs alot more than a $150 bucks or so. What are they going to "tune " on my car? Do you know much about our flashed CPU's, or the engine management system? Not much there to "tune" really. Personally I don't want any of the local dyno shop's advice/oppinion, if I did I'd pick up a subscription to Sport Compact or some other glossy crap. My subies are fast sure, but none of them could hold a candle to my old 69 firebird (RIP). EVER. It wasn't meant to turn well or stop but if you've ever honked on a late 60's "strip" car you know that's not needed for thrills. HHmm big block V8 of thunder aahhhh:slobber:
  11. Well said. My ea82t wagon was fast until it got lifted with big tires. Until that it broke loose in third gear at 3000 rpm @15psi. Lots of pull all the way up to 7.5k most likely had similar #'s to WJM. Motor had recent top end rebuild, has oil cooler, TMIC (large core AUDI F.M.I.C.) with well laid out pipeing, higher fuel pressure ~40 psi @idle, TWE Header and DP w 2.5" to the back no cats, ported turbo on the hot side for higher flow, and now runs with a 9.5:1 comp ratio. Too bad it's spinning 29x10.5" tires now:/
  12. I take mine up to 12 psi WOT sometimes more. SPFI block TMIC 86 computer and maf. Run it rich. Don't bother with the port and polish, make sure the intercoolers pipes are smooth tho nice transitions and corners. Stock engine management with fuel pressure around 40psi or so with AFPR. This will give you what you want while still maintaining as much stock equip. as possible which will save you much time and headaches. If it gets a bit wierd at higher fuel pressures consider running without the O2 sensor connected. Spend the money on the good bellmouth DP and exhaust and a good TMIC setup, help it breathe.
  13. I have them but haven't been able to install them yet, moved twice and pregnancy complication have kinda gotten in the way. I'm contracting, stand in mom, dad, pretty much WOT right now. Oh yeah work too. I cringe whenever I look at the D/R in the shop, timing can be a real ***************
  14. Progress!? ah well... Rianna's on bed rest with our 2nd babe right now and I've been hella busy with electrical contracting so not much progress. With any luck I'll have some results by the end of aug. aybe sooner but with the way things are going who knows? Hell I haven't even been out for a quick wheel in almost a month now :/
  15. Motor turns over well, starter is fine. No spark tho today so that's the direction I'm looking to right now.
  16. 86 ea82t Loud pop!? not quite like a backfire an then no ignition motor died out. It turns over well, no unusual noise. So far we've checked; distributor, maf, alternator was abit screwy so it got changed out. There's no oil in the coolant, or vac leaks that can be found, the fusible links are good. Tomorrow I'm going to help him check the timing belts and then a compression test. Vac guage too. This is a friends car, and he is currently using my work truck to drive himself up to the north end of the island to work. I want my truck! So I want to fix this fast and it's not happening. The crappy alarm system with a disable feature and hatchet wiring job is begging to be removed. It might also be related to the alternator that I noticed was charging high like it lost a diode. Bat guage climbed with rpm and his battery showed some serious overcharging had occured! Any other things to check out?
  17. This winter when I was doing time trials with some friends up the mountain I hit 15 psi - 20 psi everytime I put it to floor. Usually for 3 seconds or so about a dozen times on the 20 minute climb to the top. NO HG issues yet, 10 months total on this motor. This is on SPFI block with turbo goodies, TWE pipes/header, audi TMIC, and increased fuel pressure. The oil cooler is going back on for the summer tho. Run it rich and you'll be fine.
  18. Intake gasket. I've thrashed on many old ea82t's and seen some really far gone turbo's. Huge cracks. But the worst never pissed out water like you have described. I have had that problem tho, after replacing some HG's late at night... it was the intake gasket. I don't know how but it was not in there right.
  19. I'm not reccomending stiffer springs just spacers that make them stiffer, it's just a chunk of rubber 3" tall and about 1" by 2" wide. This goes in your stru springs anywhere really. They are cheap, and there are drawbacks but they are very minor. Same deal with the back just strech open the spring a bit slide the rubber in. The only stiffer springs out there are the ones for the rx.
  20. Yeah those yellow gates are a pain in the arse. About 6 or so years ago I had a turbo diesel ford 3/4 ton lifted with big meats on it and one helluva loggers bumper on the front. Massive, welded right to the frame, I soon found that in 4 high 2nd gear I could break the gates padlocks off by just driving through them. So we did this for about a year or so until we got caught, which sucked cause we saw some really cool country and wicked deactivated logging roads too. Now that I'm older and most of my friends are getting up there in the forestry ranks I've found myself in possesion of a few keys to these gates but I still have to "sneak in" If you're into going far the back road between Port Alberni and Cumberland still has awesome access to some wicked steep alpine trails and deactivated road beds along it's route. The backroad handbook is a godsend, so are buddies that can help tow you out.
  21. This has been asked sooo many times, but what the hell. For what it sounds like you're after I'd go with some rubber strut coil spring spacers and some for the rear shocks too. Might have to look around a bit but they are fairly common. You'll want the 3" ones for the front and 4 1" ones for the back, and borrow a tool to compress/extend the springs too. Total cost $60 tops. Then slap on a set of 185/80's. Total lift of about 2-3" depending on your springs condition. I ran this setup on a twagon for over a year with no problems. ATB
  22. I'm guessing you have a turbo? the benefits are snappier throttle, a good bit more hp especially with a good filter kn whatever, and more turbo sounds:grin: . Con's, more turbo sounds and you lose the ability to suck in cool outside air. I reccomend ditching the small pass thru to the fender snorkle and replacing it with 3" pipe minus the snorkle in the fender. You'll get all the benefits with no con's. ATB
  23. Wicked! I love the extra low end the higher comp gives you. That's pretty low boost pressure. What's your timing at Brian? On the high comp turbo motor in my lifted wagon it's at 18 btdc instead of 25 btdc that it was as a low comp motor. What's vac like?
  24. LOL, no ones made any comments on that yet? "can't your motor get addicted to that stuff?" WJM can you shed any more light on this meth injection?
  25. Tidy setup there, too bad about the DP shot. Is it a custom job? I have 2 Twagon's, one with 2.5" from the TWE DP back and the other with 3". There is a noticeable difference in throttle response, barely, but the 2.5" exhaust doesn't have nearly as much turbo whine as does the 3".
