How to tell Hitachi from Weber?

Featured Replies

I have a '85 4wd 2d hatch. Its got a EA81. I was told they put three different carbs on these things. I can't find any marks on the carb itself. I have found this little car to be a lot of fun. It is so damn easy to work on compared the late model V8 cars. I need to rebuild the carb because the car sat in storage for almost 2 years before I bought it from the original owner; an old man who put 168,000 mi on it. I drive my Suby everywhere now. But the gaskets are dried out and saturated with fuel. Sure the bowl is crusty too. I have rebuilt Holleys, Carters, Edelbrocks and the like. It would help to know which carb I have before I take it apart. To me this thing looks like a motorcycle carb. Thanks.

I got rid of my 2003 Mustang GT recently. This little Subaru impresses me so much I am going to stick with Subaru. Next new car will be WRX. My '85 has had only rountine maintenance, plus brakes, tires, and soon a clutch....my Ford had four warranty fixes in the first 60days, and a new motor at 7mos. Trans went dead three times in 6mos. I didn't even abuse it. My Z28 was just as bad.

Hey, have no clue how to help you..but I know others do...I just wanted to say WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!

I have a 4spd with a lever for 4wd that says hi and lo. Is this considered the dual range trans? There is some Subaru specific stuff I don't know.

If you look under the filter element, if its a Weber.. it would have this stamped on it.

Correct. Two ranges == dual range tranny.

Thanks. I didn't see anything Weber on it. So I know it ain't a Weber. I never have had a 4wd. I moved to WA from down South. Straight line cars with big power were the norm for where I lived. I don't see a modified Stang in the snow or wet roads for that matter.
