ya gauge says 0, engine sounds fine, oil level O K, sending unit? wiring? dash

needle? Can I check the dash needle by grounding wire at sending unit. Oh ya 86 wagon. Thanks all

is it 0 continuosly?or does it raise as you drive?

Check the dipstick Good sign that it's not clacking bad or knocking hard!

 

Check the sending unit wire. They are pretty prone to damage. Wire on mine actually broke inside the shielding. Couldnt see it had a break in the wire untill I felt up the wire and found the break inside the shielding.

 

Maybe someone could provide the OHMs resistance spec for the sending unit for you to check against? Then you could see if it was the sending unit.

 

Another good check would be to plumb in an aftermarket oil guage.
