January 26, 200521 yr I'm trying to install a new water pump, but I can't get the old one off because the Bypass and the radiator hose don't want to come off. I have pulled and pulled, but I don't think they want to come. Whats the best way to get them off? Should I just run to the hardware store and get new hoses? Thanks.
January 26, 200521 yr new hoses may be a good thing to do if they are getting old. us mechanic types have hose removal tools for that verry problem. its like a large pick that you slip under the hose to break it free. also try twisting it works much better than pulling. rember those things you put your fingers in as a kid? chinese hadcuffs I think they called em. if you pulled it just got tighter. just like your hose.
January 26, 200521 yr Totally agree, new hoses. You can get the metal intake tube out of the pump w/o remove the hose at all however. Just did this 2 weeks ago. Had good hoses on it so I didnt want to remove them. Unbolted the tube from the block... wiggled and pulled real hard :-p It's a tight fit! Prolly the second hardest part of the job. First being getting the old gasket off the block w/o scratching up the gasket surface.
