Where is my coolant temp sensor, 95 impreza, 1.8L

Featured Replies

I'm sure you've covered this a thousand times, but I can't find it. Hard start problems, bla bla bla. Occording to the Chilten's auto manual it should be "on the side of the radiator" but I've spent hours looking all over that engine compartment and still can't find it. I also read a bunch of post here and didn't find any specific to the 1.8 liter impreza. I'm at my wits end. The more specifate you can be the better. Pictures would be brilliant too.

Thanks a lot

Samson

There a coolant crossover tube below the intake manifold, It should be screwed in to the tube on the right side of the engine.

Do I have to take off the intake manafold to get to it?
No but it's a little involved. Start at the PCV valve, go down from there and towards the front of the engine going under the passenger's side intake plenum and you'll find it. It's screwed horizontaly towards the front of the engine. You'll have to put aside some vac hoses and some wires before getting free access to it. Takes a socket with extension to remove it after disconnection. A small amount of coolant will seep out but since's it's pretty much on top of the engine, noting to worry about. You could lower the coolant level by an inch or two if you want zero leak.

Good luck!

Ok, I'm going to go look for it right now. But just to clarify. it is NOT the sensor sticking out verticaly right by the engine code, but around in the area screwed horizontaly into the "side" more or less of the engine.

Here goes

Not sure I understand what you mean by «right by the engine code» and no it's not screwd into the side of the engine but goes front to back (connector is towards the fire wall and threads are towards the front of the engine right under the driver's side rear intake manifold plenum. You get at it from the rear.

Also take into account GLCraigGT's post.

Thanks a ton legacy777! I don't think I would have ever found it with out that picture. Frag thanks a lot too. the whole time I was looking right where you told me and it was correct, but the wire harness seemed to converge right over the sensor. I furgured it was connecter to the radiator pipe ontop, but since I couldn't see it I didn't want to start taking things off till I new where it was.

Thanks again

Samson
