February 10, 200521 yr I found a company that makes BIG POWERFUL alternators. they have alts from 40 amps all they way up to 325 amps. Thats right you read it correct, 325 amps! I think I might have found my solution for more power. Here is the web site http://www.prestolite.com These are Leece Nevilles alternators, and I don't know if anyone has ever put one in a subaru, but if things work out, I might try to squeeze one under my hood, somday Well, I can dream anyway
February 10, 200521 yr all they way up to 325 amps. That's SCARY power. Is that how Carnies run the Ferris Wheel or something? I have a 105 in my van, which charges my marine engine battery, and the two Trojan golf cart batts in the back. Those pushed a 1400 watt inverter, plus a DC piezzo cooler, all interior lighting, vent fans, drinking water pump, crock pot and of course the coffee maker. Desktop computer, fullsize monitor, Playstation, VCR, too. Plus the 50 or so amps it takes just to run the friggin van itself. I could turn everything on at once and the system would just suck it up. I guess what I'm saying is what in the hell are you doing that you need more power than 100A?
February 10, 200521 yr I guess what I'm saying is what in the hell are you doing that you need more power than 100A? I ran the stock 115A in my Saab.. it kept up with the stereo.. barely
February 11, 200521 yr Author The leece's are use in industrial applications, where alot of power is needed, or for what these guys do. Check out this link, some of these suberbans have 6 of these alts under the hood! http://www.bigradios.com/avis/
February 11, 200521 yr How about one with more amps that bolts right in and plugs right into our wiring ? Otherwise you really dont need them; theres the XT6 swap and the GM swap for those who want big amps and can do some modifications to make them fit.
February 11, 200521 yr Author Yeah, I am thinking about the gm swap, or maybe even doing dual gm alts. I don't ever think I would need a 325 amp alt, plus its case is about 9" Leece Nevile build them from 30 amps on up, so I might see if I can get a 200 amp to fit, when I have the $$$$
