ok i just picked up a 1987 xt 5spd 2wd ea82 mpfi non turbo, it started right up at the car lot 113,000 miles on it, lt had great power made it about 15 miles up the road and as soon as i started up a steep hill the car crapped out and check engine light came on but goes off sometimes as soon as you put a load on it ie driving it starts to cut out like there is no power at all then it jerks and really doesnt rev very good but if you leave it sit for a little while and start it and

rev it its normal untill you try to drive it then the light comes and and no power????any clues this sucks...

ok changed maff , plugs, fuel filter, coil, fixed stripped plug. still does it? its fine untill it warms up after driving awhile then the check engine light comes on and the car falls on its face. if you just ease the gas its ok but when you press it hard the car just bogs out... weird, im gonna try to switch out the injectors see what happens this sucks...

I am at a loss

instead of saying it sux

and throwing parts at it

why not check the ECU error codes?

maybe it's a case of

ecuolepscey

(fear of electronic control units)

:^)

sounds like the temp sensor for the ecu. its located on the back of the intake with a brown connector that looks like the ones on the injectors, 2 wires. the car will run fine till it warms up, then it wont know what to do, and if it stalls, good luck starting it till she cools off.

my turbo wagon did this and i narrowed it down to the ecu temp sensor. sometimes just cleaning the contacts in the connector will fix the problem. the sensor is a variable resistor, and corrosion will change the resistance values and thus the ecu reads a wrong signal

try cleaning the contacts to see if that helps, then check the ecu codes per the USRM link on the top in the miscellaneous section
