February 19, 200521 yr ok i just picked up a 1987 xt 5spd 2wd ea82 mpfi non turbo, it started right up at the car lot 113,000 miles on it, lt had great power made it about 15 miles up the road and as soon as i started up a steep hill the car crapped out and check engine light came on but goes off sometimes as soon as you put a load on it ie driving it starts to cut out like there is no power at all then it jerks and really doesnt rev very good but if you leave it sit for a little while and start it and rev it its normal untill you try to drive it then the light comes and and no power????any clues this sucks...
February 19, 200521 yr The crystal ball is very cloudy... it is clearing now... and it says... Check the ECU codes. My WAG is the MPFI's coolant thermosensor.
February 20, 200521 yr yo mate, please click this and give it a read Engine check light mysteries Go to the links in the post Remember your ECU is under the rear parcel shelf beside the pass. side speaker. Sounds "MAF"ish to me. But whadu-I know - - nuttin' and I don't wanna know nuttin'
February 20, 200521 yr I agree with Skip. It does sound somewhat MAF'ish. Check the codes and report back. Oh. And here's some punctuation. (.............,,,,,.....) You can use it in your next post
February 20, 200521 yr Author ok changed maff , plugs, fuel filter, coil, fixed stripped plug. still does it? its fine untill it warms up after driving awhile then the check engine light comes on and the car falls on its face. if you just ease the gas its ok but when you press it hard the car just bogs out... weird, im gonna try to switch out the injectors see what happens this sucks...
February 20, 200521 yr I am at a loss instead of saying it sux and throwing parts at it why not check the ECU error codes? maybe it's a case of ecuolepscey (fear of electronic control units) :^)
February 20, 200521 yr sounds like the temp sensor for the ecu. its located on the back of the intake with a brown connector that looks like the ones on the injectors, 2 wires. the car will run fine till it warms up, then it wont know what to do, and if it stalls, good luck starting it till she cools off. my turbo wagon did this and i narrowed it down to the ecu temp sensor. sometimes just cleaning the contacts in the connector will fix the problem. the sensor is a variable resistor, and corrosion will change the resistance values and thus the ecu reads a wrong signal try cleaning the contacts to see if that helps, then check the ecu codes per the USRM link on the top in the miscellaneous section
February 20, 200521 yr Author finnaly it is fixed runs like new. i replaced the throttle body hoping it would be a bad sensor and it was. also i did check the codes and replaced all the troubled spots.thanks for your help
