Engine weights revealed

Featured Replies

So I looked up the weights of the engines...

EA82T vs EJ205/EJ25x series

EA82T shortblock is 45.5 lbs. All the EJxxx engines I looked up are listed as 110.0 lbs.

Hmmm...thats a GAIN of 64 lbs.

WHOLE engines...

EJ205 (WRX) is 350 lbs.

EA82 is not listed as ever avalible as a complete engine assy or long block. :-\ My guess it about 100~150 lbs less.

OMG  - well no EJ conversion for me - that is a bit much weight for me to add to my front end and expect decent handeling

its realy not that big of a deal. with my er27, compared to the old ea81, i cant tell the difference, cept it plows through snow better now.

I wonder why it weighs so much more thou?

the blcok deisgn...and there is alot more material in the block over the EA82.

Speaking of ER27....69.2 LBS.

Good triva knowledge but I wouldnt base many decisions or assumptions on short block weights; or even weight of long blocks. Quite alot of extra junk on a full engine assembly vs. a long or short block.

its not an assumption, its FACT right from SUBARU.
