outback engines/mpg

Featured Replies

can you get a 2.2 in an outback? I have a 91 that gets a solid 25 mpg in town with the ac on full blast in Tucson , Az- I am not interested in getting 20 or 21 mpg, I can buy a diesel truck that will get that (just read some posts on outback mpg)

The only 2.2 OBWs were in 95 and maybe 96???

The Outback Sports had the 2.2 until 2000 or 2001 I think.

Is MPG the only issue? My 99 OBW gets between 26-30 and the AC doesn't seem to have any noticeable effect on mileage. That with an auto, BTW.

My 02 OBW with the 2.5 and automatic gets about 32 mpg on the highway. Those are Canadian gallons, which are larger than the American versions.

On my 2000 I get about 21 city / 28 highway.

Its the AWD that causes the drop in MPG. If it were just straight FWD the MPG would be AOK.
