Inconsistent Misfire Code

Featured Replies

I've got a 97 obw with 148k that throws a cylinder 1 misfire code every couple of weeks or so. Initially I replaced the plugs and wires and put some injector cleaner in the tank and it went away. Two weeks later it comes back and I had autozone delete it. But, it keeps coming back and I just have it deleted again. No rhyme or reason. I don't feel any laspe in performance when I get the light, it seems totally random. Would a bad coil cause a misfire so randomly? Do I have a bad injector? What's the next step? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks

if the misfire codes jump from one cylinder to another, i would say you got a coil pack going out..

I am having the same problem, only mine is showing misfire on cylinders 1 and 3. Engine runs great. Getting about 21.5 MPG and I have already replaced the coil pack, wires and plugs. But it still keeps coming back. I have cleared it about 10 times in the last 3 months.

If you replaced your coil pack as well, what does that leave? Injectors? How does the ecm detect the misfire? Maybe we have a problem there. I really don't know what to do next. I guess the good news is the engine runs well and it's more annoying than anything. Let me know if you figure it out. thanks

If electrical,that leaves the ignitor

If fuel related, that leaves the injector

If mechanical, that leaves a valve problem
