mudrat79
Motor Will fit for sure....I stuffed the Ej-22 and AWD auto into the BEAST for the Rubicon trip..... I had 12" of lift, and Lots of space in the tunnel area, but if you are doing a 5 speed AWD no problem.... Or do the Ej-Engine and my adapter and Keep Hi-Lo range..... Your going to have to fabricate some tranny mounts Most likely, For engine mounts, Leave the EJ mounts on the Motor, and Slot the hole for mount in the belly pan outwards 3/4" on each side ....it will slide right in.... Have fun, John

ballitch
definately a good swap to do, but if i were you, i would use the EJ18 instead, 30 less horse and torque but you will probably get better mileage and a higher redline with it. i recently put a EJ22 into an 86' GL wagon, it moves it along ALOT better than the EA82 motor that was in it before, if you do a search for "EJ22 swap" you will find out a few of the "unknowns" of this kind of motor swap, and be prepared to do alot of research for your wiring aspect of the project, its difficult but doable by the average guy, IF you take your time and triple check everything. yes, people have put ej22's in hatchbacks, a guy named subarino did it, hes from australia, http://community.webshots.com/album/134929361hUEpcw/1 try this site, it will answer some basic questions, good luck. ~Josh~
