April 1, 200520 yr So my family owns nothing but diesels. 3 of which are VW jettas with TDI engines. I have always loved the milage and torque that diesels produce. So i am thinkin about a way to put a TDI engine into my subaru. I have no idea how i would do it. what do you guys think good idea.... bad idea? where to start? thanks.
April 1, 200520 yr A diesel Subaru would be very cool, with an adapter plate, custom flywheel, motor mounts, some wiring and a few other things you could get it in there. BUT the big issue is the gear ratios, diesels turn less than half the RPM of a gas engine, I bet topped out in 5th gear you would be lucky to get 50mph. Whats the RPM range on the TDI? Maybe you swap in the tranny too (and lose 4WD)? Gary
April 1, 200520 yr I wanna get a wagon and put a VW diesel engine in it... then power it with waste vegetable oil.. my girlfriend is considering buying a newer jetta to convert to WVO as well
April 2, 200520 yr TDI's can twist up to like 5 grand. But you want cruising rpm lower, or you will lose that delicious economy. You could probably make up for it with larger diameter tires.
April 4, 200520 yr There are adapters to hook the VW engines up to Samurai and Totota truck trannies. You might search for those, as that could provide some insight. Of course, you could do an 8" lift and divorced T-case mod using a Yota tranny...
