I have found a 87 3 door dl coupe spfi 5spd 2wd that has a blown head gasket for $450 now i think its a good deal since the body is good so if i were to get it i would like to make it a daily driver thats more dependable and reliable than my wagonand would like it to get about 30-38 miles the gallon so it would be cheaper to run now that the wagon is getting a lift very soon so i would like your opinions on putting a built ea81 1600 pistons heads shaved ect. in it so it will require less work to keep it running for the next few years. while i am working and going to collage

Do what you can afford. but I'd pass on it. It seems a bit pricey for a shell. Good luck in collage.

Sounds like you're just about as addicted as me ;o).

For a comparison, there's a '90 Legacy a few blocks away from me that has a blown headgasket, that sounds like it's in a similiar body shape... and he's asking $100 for it. If I don't take it, he needs help getting it to a junkyard , so I figure I could offer him $25 for it and he'd probably take it.

Just for a comparison.

a 3 dcoor is a rare beast. i would haggle down what you can but dont pass it up, if you want a 3-door!

to put an ea81 you would have to modify a distributor to use spfi. you can run a carb ea81. you would have to swap out to the carb fuel pump, and wire it to the coil or IGN.

connect the disty to the coil terminals. leave all the spfi stuff hooked up on the car itself, like the coil, and leave the intake plugs hang and tuck them away.

if you took it upon yourself to fix the head gasket on the ea82, you could later put it in and have spfi.

running with open timing belts makes service easier

by the time you fix the engine off the car you will know how to fix it ever again

thanks i know how to change head gaskets but i already have this motor laying a around and i intend to run run the spfi if i can all i would take is changing the gear on the bottom of the disty right thats no big deal and since i will be living in a dorm i pretty much need the car to be bomb proof since i will be about a 1000 mile from my tools and lift :( .

by the way the cars body is the best i have ever seen it has 96000 miles on it the paint is great and no rust anywhere

yeah good deal, i swapped a disty gear for an spfi mock up. on mine i turned the spfi gear upside down and tack welded it, as the pin didnt line. bit i guess you can swap the gear between the 2 distys

if i was you i wouldn't pass it up. have fun
