map or maf sensor???

Featured Replies

my 99 legacy's obd-2 says the map sensor is shot. i have read that subaru's had a maf then map sensors. my car is a california emissions car with a 2.2L and auto tranny. any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

DanO

Mass Air Flow sensor? It wasn't just the first ones...it is in all. It is what connects to the box the holds the air filter.

I got one on eBay for $10, and one at a junkyard for $80. It really killed my gas mileage when mine died. A used one would work fine, if you can find one at a good price. Mine came off a older EJ22 Legacy...so they outta all be about the same.

MAF are up until 1999. 2000+ used MAP.

I think my car (California '96 Legacy) has both. Is that redundant? I can see a MAF sensor right after the air filter. I'm fairly certain the thing bolted down right behind the air filter box, with the vacuum line and a wire harness attached to it, is a MAP sensor.

Perhaps...maybe something to do with emissions?

Did you have other symptoms?

Well, it was my fault it died. I put an open air intake on it, and it sucked a lot of dust in, so I was cleaning the MAF with alcohol and a Q-TIP and it ran like crap and gas mileage was like 12 MPG.
