Question on Rear / Crank / Cam Seals

Featured Replies

What is the best procedure for installing new ones? Should I lube them with a bit of oil or even spit while installing? Chilton's is very vague on this. This is for the 87 T - Wag Engine / Tranny swap that didn't get done yesterday.

Oh, and one more question. Does the torque converter share fluid with the auto-tranny, or with the FWD differential, or is it self contained. I hope this is not a dumb question. In my twenty-sum-odd years of tinkering with cars, I have never dealt with an automatic transmission before.

i use grease and/or oil all over the seal, then install. i've never heard of using sealant on the seal. is that to compensate for rough metal surfaces?
