Clutch problem, wrong clutch maybe?

Featured Replies

edit: read fourth post please.

When I got my Brat it had a squeaky thrust bearing, or you may call it a throughout bearing. The guy said he replaced the clutch bu he got the wrong thrust bearing with the clutch kit. When I got a new bearing for the Brat it was the wrong one, I asked for a bearing to fit a 89 Brumby. I got a bigger one that I suspect would fit a EA82, as I said it was a “89” Brumby Maybe there books were wrong. Anyway, I got the right one and it was a lot cheaper!! Less then 30% of the price. I put it in and it worked great. My dad, who uses the ute sometimes to take 500L of water to another one of our properties, said the clutch slips and he wanted me to adjust it. I can’t adjust it anymore as it doesn’t clear and it won’t change gear with out lots of crunch or stoping the car. Now. I’m thinking maybe it’s the wrong clutch. Because the guy who sold it to me got a kit with the bigger wrong bearing. Could of this been an EA82 clutch? Would it fit straight on? Would it cause problems? Like wearing out the trust bearing, I am one of those people that can’t stand little squeaks in a car at all! Help me please!

Well the diameter would be the same, but as it wears the disc would have the symptoms you have. Id say yes, you have the wrong one.

Order one for an 84 Brumby (or whatever is the year before Australia got thee ea82) and see what comes in.

Will I have to get a hole kit? There like $180AUD! Or do I just need a new plate and thrust bearing? Also, does the 89 Brumby/Brat use 200mm or 225mm clutch?

i think i saw 3 different clutchs for EAs. how do i make sure i get the right one? its a 200mm right? also is the bearing goi to tell me its the right one? its for my 89 brumby.

http://www.coximport.com/daikin/subaru.html

has three clutchs for 1.8l brats. two 200mm ones and one 225mm one. by what that site says I should use the 225mm one.

http://www.drivewire.com/subaruparts/catalog/subarubratclutchdisc.html

That site says I should use the 225mm one as well.

http://www.speedyperformanceparts.com/exedy_su_brat_clutch-disc_z.html

Says I should use the 200mm one.

So I'm going to look at the clutchs my local mech has and try to get the 225mm, thats only if the thrust bearing I have will fit it. As I think thats what it wrong with the clutch I have, the thrust bearing is too small for the fingures. Anyway, dinner time.

The smaller clutch came on the earlier ea81s, up to 82 or 83 i think, so yours should have the bigger one (thats good, the small ones suck).

Get the flywheel checked, it may need machining - this would also cuase the problem you describe.

I would also just ask for parts for an '84 brumby if your having trouble. Valvetrain is the only thing that changed after then i think.
