head torquing sequence

Featured Replies

Hello, this is my first post to this forum. I really enjoy reading the threads here! There is a wealth of information available but I can't find this. I'm in the process of resealing and putting new gaskets in my 88 DL wagon, 1800cc. My Chiltons guide does not have the sequence I need, even thou it should cover this model year....? Does anyone know of a link or could someone supply it to me? Thanks

Ok when you are putting them on, hopefully you took them out from the outside in.

You put them on from the middle and work your way out

Hopefully that helps.

Did you want torque specs?

did you check in the first pages of chapter 2?

Oh yeah WELCOME TO THE BOARD. It's the most valuable thing, to me, about subarus.

Thats a good start.

But the heads are torqued in three steps. Go through the pattern the same way each time.. I will dig up the numbers here shortly. I know the final one is 47 ft/lbs;)

but my final TQ is always 65+

Beware of doing that on an old block.. you may very easily find yourself with stripped threads in the block.

Found out the hard way that stripped head bolt holes suck.
