oil pump

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever had to replace the oil pump on a 2.2L engine? do they ever go bad, or do the seals just leak?

It's hard for an oil pump to go bad, it's so well lubricated :).

Most people service them at belt change : one O ring behind it, back plate screws sometimes need retightening and whole pump body has to be sealed against the block. When I did the belt on my car, I replaced the O ring and resealed but the back plate screws were still tight so I did'nt touch them.

I've been on this board for a few years and dont remember anyone ever posting about having replaced the pump. If someone did, he will maybe chime in.

Good luck!

178K on my 95, only replaced the seals

My father's 91 had something like 200k+ and never had a problem other than seals

My brother's 91 has something like 220k+ with nothing other than replacing the seals.

I resealed the pump in my car when I bought it at 100k. It wasn't leaking, but three of the screws were VERY loose. I don't know how long they had been that way, but I was glad I checked them.
