Well after my offroading stint my exhaust was rather broken. I went to Advanced Auto Parts and my friend who works there helped me pick out some 2inch parts, and my uncle helped me weld it up.

 

I got 2 45degree pipes (item 5600812) and something for some truck (item 3384969) and a 2inch id id (item 548504). I already had a 6ft section of 2inch straight pipe.

 

My cat is emptied out so I pulled it off and we cut the bad stuff off and put the S piece made out of the 2 45's on there and welded it up tight. Then we put the straight piece on the other end of the S and welded it up. The funny curved piece got the 2id to 2id pipe splice welded to it and the cherry bomb muffler.

 

Then everything got put up under the car with one clamp to hold the straight pipe to the muffler piece (would have been hard to weld it with the angles). Welded up some custom hangers for the whole deal and tada 2 inch exhaust.

 

 

Only bad thing is that my studs pulled out of my manifold and we put some bolts in, but they don't seem to wanna hold. Has anyone ever tapped and put in different studs?

 

**UPDATE** I found some replacement studs for a toyato Corolla that worked great. They were just a tinsy bit bigger then the old ones. I put thread locker on them and tighten them up in and it's working great right now.

That sounds pretty cool. I am thinking about doing a 2" exhaust or thereabouts on my Brat.

 

Two questions:

1- How is the power improvement? (your engine is all stock, right?)

2- Was it very expensive for the parts that you had to buy? So, all the bends excluding the long 2" that you had and the cherry bomb. . .

best to helicoil them, i just did a bunch on my XT6. pretty straight forward and easy with a drill and helicoil kit as the things are easy to get to, though the exhaust manifold will have to come off as the tap for the helicoil is larger than the holes in the exhaust flange.

 

i've seen some people's work where they will cover up their exhaust manifold with lots of sealant and bolt it back up as best as they can with like half the nuts/studs loose or not existant. i wouldn't do it that way, but seen others that have.

So how badly did the old exhaust end up getting broken? Sure sounded like hell.

 

Gotta love that... riding a trail, nice BANG of the car bottoming out, and then BWAAAAAA... there goes the exhaust!

I spent $25 on the bends. Had the straight pipe from bumpers, and the cherrybomb was $20.

 

Seems to have lil more power. Hard to know if its real power or just me thinking its there.
