July 18, 200520 yr I have a 1986 4x4 GL Wagon and found conflicting information on the size of the fuel tank. The owners manual says 15.9g, but my Chilton manual says 14.5g. Does anyone know which is correct? Thanks. Alan
July 18, 200520 yr Wow! My 82 Hatch only had 11.8 gal. My Snowmobile holds more gas Aparently the later Hatches had more capacity... Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--11.8 gal tank. 01 Forester--Way too small of a tank!
July 18, 200520 yr I'd lean more towards the 15.9 gallon spec. In theory the light turns on when you have 2.5 gallons left. I've gotten gas after the light goes on, and it took about 13 gallons, which is about right. Best way to know for sure though is to get a gas can, and drive until you run out. Just aim to not run out in town.
July 18, 200520 yr It should be around 15.5, give or take a couple of tenths for dents and bulges. I am surprised that my "low fuel" hasn't burned out yet...
July 18, 200520 yr hmm , this is something I've always wondered too - I've put as much as almost 14 gallons in one fill-up and that is running it past the 'E', so I personally would guess it would be the 14 1/2 gallon capacity, but I've never run it empty and then filled it full either (I have run it empty and put some in with a gas can, but didn't fill it full afterwards).
July 18, 200520 yr I've put nearly 16 in my '92 AT wagon. I was sweatin' BBs and the car must have been suckin' fumes!! Not a good practice with electric fuel pumps!!
July 18, 200520 yr my 85 wagon(which is pretty much exactly the same) has around 15.5. it does say 15.9 in the manual. thats a pretty good sized tank for a car.
