Did first headgasket job!!

Featured Replies

Well I'll be damned, it was EASY!

While I was in there, got new timing belts, cam seals, front main seal, HG's, intake manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets, resealed oil pump with a new mickey mouse oring...

by the way, if you change that mickey mouse oring in the oilpump, the TOD is drastically reduced!

anyway, while it was torn apart it got a complete cleaning.. put it all back together and i ended up doubling my gas milage from before (blown headgaskets and intake manifold gaskets).

Learned timing and the whole routine for removing and installing a disty too :D

Anyway, just to let everyone know, the HG job really wasnt too difficult, we simply pulled the motor and started going to town. The job basically completed itself it was that easy!

If anyone has questions about a HG job, timing or disty R&R, I can answer them!!! (sorry, got excited :D)

by the way, i'd suggest pulling the motor if you can, makes life realllllly easy.

And you removed the distributor why?

I have had an ongoing HG replacement project, slowed by available time and workable-weather conflicting. That, and I have spent several days hand-"milling" one of the heads that had significant erosion around the HG "fire ring". Almost ready to put back together... but time to go to work.

Congrats!

Congrats, man. It's good to hear when things go well as all too often they turn to schnitt.

True, and you know how I have to have everything done in a day for my jobs! What really freeked me out was when I snapped an intake bolt off in the head.... but yeah, got that figured out.. had a couple of intake bolts that were warped... basically once you get the intake off its gravy past that point.

I pulled the disty out to get everything in there all cleaned up..

Now all you need is your Subaru cirtification and you can be pulling down 40 bucks an hour ay the local dealership ;)

hahaahaha, maybe one day. wait, subaru certification? where do i get one of these or are you pullin my leg?
