August 21, 200520 yr Hello, I have a Subaru motor in my car (which is not a subaru) and I which to identify the year and model of the motor. The serial number on the motor block is 575833. Does this mean anything? Thank you Stéphan Ferrero
August 21, 200520 yr when you look at it from the front, depending on which way its mounted, look just to the left of the alternator, there will be raised letters that say either EJ or EA followed by 71,81,82,20,22,25 so let us know what combination you got and we can tell you what it came from, probably not the year, but the model should be easy.
August 21, 200520 yr That number is probably just a serial number. Assuming that this is an horizontally opposed engine, there should be a code cast into the top surface of the block on the right hand (as viewed from the driver's seat of a front engined car) towards the front edge (where the pulleys are). It should be something such as : EA81 EA82 EJ22 ER27 More info about what the engine looks like would certainly help. (Such as 3, 4, or 6 cylinder; OHV, SOHC, DOHC; type of intake, carb, SPFI, MPFI, turbo.)

August 23, 200520 yr Author Thank you for the reply. I checked and the number is EA81 The motor has 4 cylinders. It appears to be a OHV but not sure.
