August 23, 200520 yr I'm trying to figure out what these 2 screws do, I know the one on the left is the idle screw right? But whats the one on the right for? Is it the fast idle screw? Thanks. Its on an 85 GL 4x4 wagon, 1.8 engine. Here is the picture.
August 23, 200520 yr hi the right one is the air screw. the left one is the fuel screw. the right way to adjest it is to let the car worm up to the right temperatore and then, to close till the end the right screw(air) and to open it exacly 3 rounds and then to adjest the other screw(fuel), the left screw should adjest to 700-800 rpm in manuel or 800-900 in automatic. if you dont have a clock to see the RPM, then close it a little till the engine will be stady and not shacking...go for a ride and see if it o.k. good luck.
August 23, 200520 yr Author So to close the air screw, I turn it all the way to the right? And then open it to the left 3 turns? Cool, thanks man. So is that how I can make it more lean istead of rich?
August 24, 200520 yr Author Hey Moshem, i tried closing the right screw all the way but the car would die, and I think it would run wayy too rich if i only turned it 3 turns. Anyone else have any ideas how to adjust the right screw? Thanks....
August 24, 200520 yr Left one is idle speed screw and right one is air/fuel mixture screw. I'm interested myself to see if anyone else knows the correct tuning method. I know how to do it on my edelbrock but it's got 2 mixture screws.
August 24, 200520 yr Author Ya hopefully someone will know. Dude I checked my engine today next to the pics you sent me, and found out that our engines are quite different, you have things I dont and vice versa... very weird. Especially around the front of the carb and the hosing from canister is different on mine. I still dont know what to do with those 2 outlets coming out from my carb, not sure what vacuum hose goes into them. I'll post up pics tomorrow. Crazy Subaru, why do they have to make so many different engines? Oh well...
August 24, 200520 yr hi if you turn the car and close the right screw and the car will die, its ok because you close it, dont worry. look, you should let the car worm to its right temp , close the engine swich, close the right screw till the end and then open it 3-3.5 rounds, not more. now turn on the car and see if its shaking then close the left screw a little. the right screw should be 3-3.5 rounds open, after that, you should play only with the left screw. good luck.
August 24, 200520 yr burocracy:rolleyes:. Camelwagon is also trying to find out where that hose should go. Someone has put it there to block the pipe. I think it may be the pcv valve... can anyone confirm this and help him reconnect it?
August 24, 200520 yr Author Ok I'll try that Moshem. Thanks. Ya, someone who had this car before me taped that hose up with tape. No, the pcv is in the back of the carb, this hose with the tape is in the front towards the radiator. Thanks.
August 24, 200520 yr Author Hey Moshem, my right screw was turned like 15 times to the left. I'll see how it runs now...
August 26, 200520 yr Author Hm well I turned the screw the right way and still failed emissions. I had my car checked by an emissions guy and he says i'm not getting enough fuel in the carburator somehow, its running lean either way I turn the mixture screw. He showed me on his emissions computer, he turned the screw from all the way left to all the way right and the HC's were really high both ways. He also squeezed the PCV hose and the HC's went down pretty low so I'm not sure wats up with that... And he says i have a miss but says that probably not whats causing the HC's.
