  1. I tried to do it, I bought one of those bleeding kits which consists of a little bottle and a hose going into it. So I unscrewed the bleeder screw and put the hose over it and then went and stepped on the brake pedal a few times and the fluid went into the bottle... I did that on all 4 tires. I test drove it and the brakes are WORSE now, pedal is very soft and goes almost to floor. I think what I did wrong was I took the hose off and then screwed the screw back in and that probably let in some air. Any ideas?
  2. I think its either 13.9 or 15.9. On the msn autos website it says the 88 has 15.9 gallons....
  3. How many gallons does my tank have? 85 Suby GL 4x4. Where can I find this info? Thanks.
  4. Ya, I only have the 2 terminal sensor, one terminal sideways from the other terminal. So Miles, you're saying that if I buy a one terminal sensor, it would still connect right and the gauge would still work???
  5. The 2 pin sensor is right near the thermostat housing. So where is the one pin sensor? Well I disconnected my 2 pin to test if the gauge moved and the gauge didnt move at all after that when I drove, so that means that the one with the 2 pin is for the gauge on the dash. My car is an 85 so maybe its different and it is a California car with different stuff.
  6. My sending unit sensor has 2 pic connectors and I'm trying to get a new one but every auto parts store has them with only 1 connector, whats up with that? Where can I find a 2pin? Is it a Subaru dealer part? Thanks...
  7. Well I think it has to do with my alternator and waterpump. It overheats a lot more when I have the lights on at night and the heater fan. So that means its putting a lot more load on the alternator and belts, and the water pump isnt turning normally.... thats my latest conclusion. And plus the voltmeter gauge is weird too, when I have my blinkers on the gauge goes up and down in rhythm to the blinkers... So I might replace the alt and see what happens.
  8. Hm thanks guys. I'll try the belt and shaft thing first. Where is the bypass hose again? I check on radiators, cleaning and rodding is from around $50-$60, a brand new one, cheapest I found was $120 here in Spokane. I dont really wanna get one off the net. I might just have to do the rodding for now, I dont wanna put so much into this junker. Thanks.
  9. Well I looped the heater core hoses but no change, in fact it seems like it overheats worse. ANother thing, after i did this i drove on the freeway and it was overheating up there high and so i put it in neutral and revved up the engine a few times and that helped the gauge go down a bit, i kept having to do this... what does that mean? Maybe the water pump isnt turning but only turns when i revv the engine??? Ughghgh. Any ideas? Thanks guys.
  10. I'm driving 85 GL with EA82. And yes the thermostat is on top with the top hose going to it. What engine are you talking about Soob?
  11. Hm sounds good Soob, I will bypass. But then I wont get any heat in the cabin huh? Oh well at least hopefully the engine wont overheat. Thanks.
  12. Hm Soob Flyer made sense a bit but both of the heater core hoses are really hot (even tho theres not much heat in the cabin), so that means coolant is going in and out of the core. And when I flushed the core a couple weeks ago, i put the garden hose to both holes and water gushed out freely from the opposite hole. Same with the radiator. But then again they both could be partially clogged up. So I just dont knoooooow, I'm going nuts here. Oh well its not my daily driver so i'll see what happens. I'll try the gauge thing though fo sure. Thanks guys.
  13. Well I've flushed it twice, burped it a couple times... nothing. So how many coolant hoses are there, the 2 rad ones, 2 heater core... wat else? I know there are some smaller ones...
  14. Ya I burped it all, I dont think thats it. I've flushed and cleaned so many other radiators and no bubbles have ever come up. And if there was a bubble, it couldnt be so big as not to get any heat at all in the cabin, at least it would come in spurts here and there. I'll check the hoses. The main fan works but just not the 2nd. I'll get the gauge soon. Thanks.
  15. Ya I flushed and backflushed the rad, fan is good, 2nd fan doesnt seem to come on though when it overheats. No heat in the cabin when I turn the heat on full blast. But the heater core hoses are really hot. What do you mean by collapsed hoses, how do they look?
  16. Hm I might have to try a gauge like that then. Ya I already replaced the thermostat though with no change. Thanks.
  17. A friend of mine said it could also be my water pump not working and thats causing overheating.?.? So whats the difference between a mechanical temp gauge and the one in the car? How and where can I hook up the mechanical gauge? Does it not need to be hooked up with wiring? Thanks.
  18. Ya I think too that the temp would be quite a bit different from the coolant than the actual engine block so I dont think I wanna go that route. I could probably connect the wires in from the old sending unit to a new gauge. See personally I dont think its the rad. I used to have a 90 Mazda MX6 and it had the same problem, the gauge showed hot most of the time. I took it to Mazda dealer, they cleaned the rad, did all kindsa stuff and tests and they couldnt come up with anything. I replaced the gauge, sending unit.... nothing. They were baffled, they tested the coolant and it wasnt as hot as the gauge said it was so they thought it was some wiring thing and I didnt want to spend money for that. So same for this I think, like I said, the rad cap isnt even hot when I touch it, no boiling into the overflow tank, no hot smell in the engine... and I dont really wanna spend much money on it. But I may call around rad shops to get quotes.
  19. Hm ya maybe. So what do they do when they clean a radiator professionally?
  20. Hmm weld it? Isnt the sensor supposed to be in contact with the coolant?
  21. What should the PSI be on radiator caps for 85 GL? Thanks.
  22. Hey 91Royale, what PSI cap did you get? That might be my problem too.
