Failed emissions - HELP
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well seems like my carb needs rebuilt, had it checked by an emissions guy and he says i'm not getting enough fuel in there somehow, its running lean either way I turn the mixture screw. Very weird. Not sure if he's right or wat but he showed me on his emissions computer, he turned the screw from all the way left to all the way right and the HC's were really high either way. And NOTHING works, i tried a couple bottles of HEET and denatured alcohol and that "Guaranteed to Pass" crap AND Seafoam and nothing helped, still failed emissions. He also squeezed the PCV hose and the HC's went down pretty low so I'm not sure wats up with that... And he says i have a miss but says that probably not whats causing the HC's. Oh well. Any ideas? -

Hey 1985GLWAGON, by the way the date of manufacture for my Suby is 02/85 so not too far off from yours. So where exactly is that hole supposed to be again? Thanks.

For the EA82 is it supposed to be at 8 degrees for normal? -

So how exactly do you advance the timing? I've been wondering this for a while now. I know you turn something in the distributor? -

Cool, thanks. Will it drive and idle well with alcohol in it? -
IS there a way to clean the EGR valve? And how? Gotta take it out to do it? Thanks.

Is it true that taking out the air filter might help in passing emissions?? -

UPDATE: Emissions Problems in the BRAT! Oh no!
Camelwagon replied to SuBrat84's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My 85 GL didnt pass either, high HC, 400, standard is 220. But passed CO, in fact the CO was very low, .04 and standard is 1.2. They say that my timing needs advanced a bit, does this sound correct? Sounds like its too lean too, thats what high HC means. Thanks. -
Failed emissions - HELP
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, I failed emissions again yesterday. But its getting better, only failed at HC this time. It was way high like 400 and should be 250 or something. CO was real low like .04 and normal is 2.9. So I'm running way too lean right? Any other ideas? Thanksss. -
Hooray; the Brat passed emissions today!
Camelwagon replied to edrach's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey now dont misuse my name without permission like that Ed... :) -
Finally got it like yours and it runs fine. Thanks.
-
It looks like you also have an unconnected nozzle right above your finger, on the air box..?? Ok I think I got it finally. So the blue one is the same as the red string one that goes to the nozzle on the right that I have nothing connected to?? So I just need a piece of hose from the metal piece to the nozzle. Ok so then the other end of the red tape one goes to the canister also right? The red and blue are these 2 on my pic below right? Ya I definitely dont have that black box thing on the passengers side. Hmm. Maybe mine is blocked off for a reason. Thanks man, appreciate it.

Is this the idle screw?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey Moshem, my right screw was turned like 15 times to the left. I'll see how it runs now... -
Hey, its dual range. I'll check on the date of manufacture.

Camelwagon replied to edrach's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So Ed, why is your brat gonna be exempt from emissions in 2 yrs? What's gonna be the cut off year then? -
Dude sorry but I have no idea what you're talking about, safety, bomb...?.?
-
Ok so you turn it to the right till it stops? And then turn it to the left a few turns till it runs smooth? And then adjust the left screw, the idle screw? Thanks.
