Lurching, shaking, sputtering
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool, thanks. I've read that maybe it could also be the ignition coil or bad fuel pump. When I turn the key just to "on" the fuel pump runs forever and doesnt stop, is that normal? At least I think i hear the fuel pump, i'll have to check for sure on that one. -
lots of hesitation, almost not drivable

How do you adjust the TPS, or how do you replace the sensor? Where is it? -
More vacuum hose questions... (pics)
Camelwagon posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok I'm wondering if a couple of my vacuum hoses are connected correctly. Here are pics. Thanks. 1. First off is the EGR hose, is this where it goes? 2. This long hose is by the EGR valve. Does it go where the red circle is? 3. These are in the front lower part of the carb. Which of these hoses goes back to the EGR valve? 4. And lastly, this small hose is coming out of the carb, where does it connect to? I know its supposed to be longer but I cut it off cuz I wasnt sure where it goes.. Thanks guys... -
Lurching, shaking, sputtering
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ya, replaced all the new gaskets, saw the little ball, made sure it was there... The carb is all working well from what we see. -
Ok my 85 GL is still really sputtering and shaking when i accelarate, even after my friend and i rebuilt the carb this weekend, its still running bad. I dont know wats up. We did everything good, adjusted the idle and all that... and also now the idle goes up and down sometimes and sometimes even dies, so i gotta turn up the idle a bit but then its too high ughghgh. Found out the egr wasnt opening so we hooked up to a different hose and it opens now all the time, but it still runs bad and i dont think its the right hose for the egr. Ughgh we're outa ideas. Any ideas? THanks...

I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hehe ya weird huh. But why wouldnt I have a fusible link? Unless someone took it out. And I bet they took out my ECS light bulb too. So 1985, you dont have an ECU or an ECS light or a fusible link? Can you put a bulb in the ECS light or is there none there? And you dont have the O2 wire dangling down either? But you have all that ASV stuff? Weird how my Cali car doesnt have all that ASV and Cali is more stringent for emissions. I guess since you dont have an 02, it makes up by you having the ASV and vice versa for me. I think our carbs are pretty similar, now that i got all the vacuum hoses right. I looked at the junk yard the other day and it was correct how you had them. I'm going again today to look for some little things. WEIRD i say again. I've never seen so many differences in one car, same year same everything. I wonder if I can just drill in a hole myself for the 02. hmm. mmuuhhahhaa. -
Stick shift is loose...

Ah cool, makes sense why my lo light isnt working cuz my switch is all messed up. So where is the "lo" light supposed to light up on the dash? Thanks. -
"Charge" and "oil" light not working
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ya cuz my ammeter guage goes up and down when i have my blinkers on... So can the voltage regulator be replaced or just the whole alternator? -

Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So that shift sensor for the 4WD right by the 4WD shifter, what does that do? I unscrewed it and pulled it back and when i put it in 4WD, the light still comes on on the dash. Is there another sensor that does the light on the dash? -

"Charge" and "oil" light not working
Camelwagon posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I opened up my dash yesterday and found that the "charge" and "oil" lights didnt have a bulb so i put one in and the "charge" still didnt work. Whats up with that? And the "oil" only worked when I turned my headlights on... very weird. Any ideas? Thanks. -

Well looks like my #21 and #22 bushings are gone and so thats pretty easy. I dont think i'll go into the other ones under the car, not worth it. Thanks. -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?

Ya I'll see about that. Anyone know the cost to drill one in? -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Man this is weird, I think half of my car is 49 state and the other half is Cali. Ok, I do have an ECU under the dash and when I turn the key to on, it lights up 7 and 3, that code says its "5MT, 4WD, California vehicle". And my ECS light didnt have a bulb in it so I put one in and now it lights up when I start the car. I dont have a fusible link on the first slot. I have a connection for the O2 but no O2. Ughghgh weirdest thing. Someone must have done some home jobs on this car. Anyways, here are pics of the location of my 02 connection and also a pic from the Haynes manual. It comes out from the "backup light" connection. Also, the "charge" light didnt have a bulb in it and I put one in but it still doesnt light up when I turn the key. And my "oil" light didnt have one either but I put one in and now it only comes on when I turn the lights on. Man this is wild... craziest car ever. Any ideas? Thanks. -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ya I'll take some pics bro. By the way, I dont have any holes for an ASV on the passengers side. I went to the junk yard yesterday to look for this and that and I saw an engine like yours that had all those extra things and hoses... interesting. Alright, later... -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So the fusible link box is right by the battery, has like 4 or 5 different slots? Ya there's nothing in the first slot towards the battery. So no o2 then? -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I dont know, maybe that box isnt the ECU under my dash, again I'll have to check when i get home. Is there anything else that could be under the dash besides the ECU? -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey 1985, as I'm looking towards the drivers side in the engine, down near the tranny there is a plastic wire connector thingy and then the o2 sensor wire is coming out of that. Man this is too weird. I dont think I have an ECS light coming on, i'll check though when i get home. (I dont drive the Suby, I drive my Acura Legend to work.) Thanks. -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hm very weird. This car has been full of surprises like no other carmaker. Ya I felt a metal box under the steering wheel, is that the ecu? Havent really dug any deeper but i'll check into it today. You guys think maybe thats why i'm not passing emissions? ughghg -
I have no O2 sensor!?!?!?
Camelwagon replied to Camelwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hm ya i thought all cars should have them. Well it looks like the manifold is probably original cuz it has "Subaru" engraved on it. Can i just drill a hole and put one in myself? Do i have to put it in the front of the manifold where its supposed to be or can I put it anywhere on the manifold? Hee hee. Thanks. -
Ok I was checking to see my o2 sensor yesterday on my exhaust manifold and found out I dont have one!! Theres no hole in the manifold or anything. The other end of the connection is up there just dangling down. Is this normal? Do only fuel injected cars have them?? Thanks.

Cool, thanks. In the Haynes it doesnt say much about it.

Camelwagon replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So by "turned in" do you mean to turned clockwise to the right?
