August 28, 200520 yr i found a cheap 99 forester that needs a transmission, but the only local trans i can find is out of a 99 outback.they are both automatics.would the outback tranny bolt up the same?any info is appreciated Jon
August 28, 200520 yr it will bolt up. the only diff might be the rear diff ratio. Get that from the doaner too and you should be good to go.
August 28, 200520 yr Author thanks for the info subeman i wonder if the forester axles will fit in an outback diff? i did also find a 02 forester tranny, but it is listed as being different from a 99???? thanks Jon
August 28, 200520 yr I think the 02 is a 4.11 and the other is a 4.44 ratio... don't hold me to this though.
August 28, 200520 yr Author thanks Matt, i will try getting the tranny and diff out of that outback.actually, the outback is in your neck of the woods (Harry`s upullit).thanks Jon
August 28, 200520 yr I love that place.... I haven't been there for a few years. I'm not too much closer to that place than you are Have a blast up there...that place is a sight!
August 29, 200520 yr Out of curiosity, how much did the replacement transmission/diff set you back? My '99 Forester has the hesiation issue, which has gotten better with more regular fluid/filter changes, but one day, I'll be looking! I'm still debating whether to dump it or fix it.
August 29, 200520 yr Author i missed the forester:banghead: it was a 2000 with the s package for $1800, but i waited too long.i bet harry`s wouldn`t charge more than $120 dollars for everything, but you would have to pull it yourself.take care, Jon
