Erratic starting problem 97 legacy 2.5 liter

Featured Replies

Got a wierd one thats hard to find because it is erratic. Most the time it happens first time the car is started for the day.Turn the key -nothing no click, the doors lock and the dummy lights come on -but no noise from the engine compartment.Try again after turning off and sometimes will then start, other times have to turn the key on and off 2-6 times, So far it has started every time ,but I think I've been lucky so far.The other odd thing is that the problem will sometimes dissappear for a couple days. It does not seem to be moisture related as we are very dry here. Might be heat related ,it has been hot. After starting car runs normal.Any ideas out there?

Betcha' it's the contacts inside the starter solenoid. Relatively simple and cheap fix. Search under starter and contacts--should be lots of info.

Good luck.

I can send a good used starter to you FedEx, $25 shipped. Just need to know if you have a auto or manual trans.

Sounds like the starter, to be sure it is the next time it doesnt start take a baseball bat or metal pipe and tap the starter a couple of times, then try to start the car if it starts up right away then most def thats your problem. You should replace it as it will only get worse with time.
