Colour of ea81t intake pipe?

Featured Replies

has anyone got a good example of, or a picture of, an original intake pipe (the bit that has "subaru 4wd turbo" on it)?

I am re-painting mine, and am about to do the lettering. I looked at a pic of a brochure, and it looks like the "subaru" lettering may be a different colour to the rest, or it may just be lighting. Anyone know?

I know this isn't exactly what you were asking for, but its kinda relevant.. This is an intake plenum I had on my car a while back. I smoothed off the rough edges and thought it was much more appealing that way

That does look much nicer..... What did you use to do that?

I've seen them like that, black with the letters unpainted. I've also seen them where the whole tube was unpainted, (Like mine), It kind of depends on what you want to paint it like I guess, as Subaru really didn't have a set way of doing it. I would recommend a really high heat pain though, cause that thing gets some pretty hot air pumped into it. I was playing with the pyrometer at work, and at 11Lbs of boost, my plenum was about 180degrees! and that was after only running about 15 minutes.

I started with an EA82 intake plenum..

I was really sick for a few days, so I wasn't getting around much.. I did all that by hand with a file and sand paper.. That pic was taken before completion. It looks a little better now. since I doubt I'll ever use it again, been thinking of cutting the top off and hanging it in the garage:-p

geez, you must have some patience! I'm thinking since the ea81t one is painted all over, i might use some thick filling undercoat and sand that off to give a nice finish.
