First 4wd... what axles work?

Featured Replies

Hey...

My stupid, cant remember, cant find the answer question of the month is this: I have a 4wd D/R MT non turbo GL wagon and need front axles... Can anyone break down the interchange for axles... like.. will the rears fint on the front? I know there is a difference between the turbos and non, but what about autos? All the other soobs I have ever had were all FWD.... XTs... either 6's or Turbos so they have all had the 25 spline... I assume that my wag is 23, but I'm unsure... also what years will fit and the like...Thanks

Your car should have the 23 spline axles, and you should be able to interchange between ANY non-turbo 4wd M/T EA82. They're they same on either side. Some other cars may use the same axles, but I'm not positive.

The rears are a different story. It is my impression that ANY EA82 4wd axles will work, but I'm not positive. The 85-86 cars had DOJs on both ends and after that there was a CV on outer end, but I have used both kinds on my car so I know they will swap.

okay, first off rear axles will not work on the front. With front axles the EA82 breakdown is like this

2wd N/A 23 spline DOJ

4wd N/A and 2wd & 4wd Turbo with 3speed auto 23 spline DOJ. You can use the 2wd N/A axles for these applications but they are not have as strong of CVJ and DOJ joints.

4wd Turbo 5speed or any model with the 4EAT transmission 25 Spline DOJ
