Lost keys? Can dealer make new ones?

Featured Replies

Lost my keys?

Can the dealer make new ones from the VIN # or some other code? or do I have to get a locksmith.

Usually they can decipher the code and make an ignition key. I dont know exaclty how it works. Once when you bought a new car you git a key code and you were never supposed to loose that number. All depends upon whats in thier database.

Don't worry. Unless the locks had been changed, an authorized Subaru dealer can make new keys for you based on the key code associated with your car's VIN.

A locksmith could make keys for you by duping the key(s) you have but unlike the dealer, probably wouldn't have any way of determining the key code from the VIN.

A locksmith would disassemble the cylinders and make the key to fit.

A good locksmith would get the keycode off the passenger side door lock cylinder and cut the key appropriately :)
