turbo upgrade ?

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried a newer IHI turbo out of a wrx on the older subarus. I was just wondering if the vf series turbos on the newer subarus are to big for the older lower output motors. From what I understand the vf24 or 29 are the smallest of the vf series. Also has anyone tried the td04 out of the wrx's. From what I see on my air intake temp gauge the stock rhb5 turbo on the subires don't do much past 10 psi except for heat the air.

Has anyone tried putting the exhaust housing on a rhb5 turbo out of a ford thunderbird. I heard it has a larger compressor and the subaru exhaust housing will bolt right on.

I have a TD04 and wrx IC in my 87 wagon. Its a lot of fun:D

Search for TD04 here and in the retrofitting forum and you'll find at least 3-4 of us that have done it.

There are a few people here on the board that have the TD04 from a WRX on their turbo'ed vehicles. I myself is one of them but have yet to get it back on the road from the total overhaul on the car. The TD04 is almost a bolt on with the stock uppipe from an EA82T. There is however one of the studs that have to be removed and relocated into a slightly different spot. There are maybe a couple people running a VF series turbo from Legacys on their EA82Ts as well but I don't know what differences there are. If you want to see some of the progress on a TD04 swap, get with Calebz or check out some of the posts here on the board. For some pics of my TD04 swap, check out my website which can be seen here

Is the td04 a ball bearing turbo like the vf series.
