Confirm idea SPFI Turbo

Featured Replies

Ok.

I have a carbbed 87 wagon... I've SPFI'd it and lifted it with large tires. Now it needs some more high end uumph as the 65-75 MPH top speed doesnt cut it specially on them larger hills. What I'd like to do is Turbo it with some happy stock levels of boost. I have the turbo parts like th manifold and such and was wondering the issues that I might face as I do this. Coolant I'll steal from the heater core lines, oil... I'm not sure where from yet, then I'll get a boost gauge and AF gauge.... Question. Am I going to have to change the engine crossmember? I have the turbo one, but just wondering if I have to change it. Also, how is stock boost controlled? I'm not worried about fueling issues due to it being low compression and a mile high. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Are you talking about swapping over to turbo heads, intake manifold, ECM, etc, or keeping your heads and the SPFI fuel system?

Rguyver put SPFI and turbo on an EA81. You might PM him about how he did it and how it turned out.

kewl thanks.

I plan to use the single port heads and SPFI when I turbo it... it just needs some kick.... tired of being beat by honda oddesys

I'd say yes if you were going to use he stock header and stuff.

For Oil you can T off the oil pressure sendre unit for the pressure side and the return side you need to tap into the oil pan and just run ther return line in there.

am i wrong in suggesting you use the turbo crossmember? so you just threw on SPFI heads on a carb'd block and called it good? in that case you have a measly 8.5:1 CR, and you could run up to about 5-7 pounds everyday, with premium fuel of course. only question is how are you going to get more fuel in the motor?

It's probably easier to cut a notch in the existing X-member, but you can put in a turbo one too.
