True. I have mesured a difference of +/- 1cm wide on three different 13" tyres. I guess the bigger you get the bigger the difference is.

Yeah, and depending on the meatiness of the tread as well, and how soft the compound is (i.e. a tire that wears faster will generally start larger), and whatever the manufacturer feels like. Trust me, if you saw the 185/70R14s I have on my wagon, you'd think they're significantly bigger. They're big fellas .

Not to be picky but I have 27x8.5x14's (215/75R14's). So, "much" wider is 1cm? 225mm is 8.85inch, so 225 wide tyres are only .35 inch wider then 8.5inch tyres. Sorry, just had to post that. (no offence)
