"quick" Impreza transmission question

Featured Replies

Will a AWD/automatic transmission from a 95 Impreza 1.8 fit..(without issue and as a replacement)....into a 95 AWD/automatic Impreza with a 2.2?

Thanks! Todd

Yes but my understanding is the 1.8 was weaker as it was missing some clutch packs or something so it may not last 200k. It'll fit just fine though and we even had a fwd 1.8 tranny driving a 3.3 that was originally awd for a time being but the tranny wasn't very happy as we even had the awd tcu controlling it.

if you can verify the clutch packs are indeed different it is highly likely you could swap the clutch packs between the two and have the better clutch pack on the trans you install.

Hmm....Subaru would have invested extra to have different clutch packs for 0.4 liters? I wish I could find this out for sure without taking the trans apart.

Not a clue, just something I was told was different from the 1.8 to 2.2. Really I think you'd be fine though. Like I said we pulled an SVX with a 1.8 tranny and it probably would've been just fine had we replaced the TCU with one for a fwd car. It just got lost when shifting.
