November 3, 200520 yr 'Evening... I was looking for the amount of torque to lay onto the oil pump on my EA82 when attaching it to the block. I found that my chilton's simply says to "intall it onto the cylinder block." No specs included. In the section on 2.5L, it says 56 in. lbs. is the way to go. Does anyone know the proper amount to torque this thing down? or should I go with 56? Thanks belizeanbus
November 3, 200520 yr That sounds pretty close. Just slightly over 4 ft/lbs. I usually just tighten them until they are tight with a very small 3/8" or 1/4" ratchet. Use caution when using this technique though. They are very small and will break easily.
November 3, 200520 yr i second the notion of a 1/4" drive ratchet when not using a torque wrench. you want them hand tight and about 1/4 turn. be careful as the bolt will seem ligke its tightening more but youre twisting it off! torque evenly a little bit each bolt at a time in sequence
