Clunking in the Rear

Featured Replies

I have a 82 Brat that has a clunking sound coming from the rear of the truck. I can't find anything that is loose.

I thing it's worn out bushings in the suspension.

What do you guys think?

under super hard acceleration in high millage WRXs there is a thumping from worn bushings on the rear diff hanger. might check those.

I noticed on my car the bushing is gone too, and same on almost every 4wd sube at the yard I was at. Try getting someone to look underneath the car while you start and stop. I noticed my dead bushing while hanging out the door, looking under the car at a rock I was stuck on :D I guess you could do that too, if you're still young and flexible

I wonder where to get bushings for the 82? I checked with Subaru and the don't have squat for this car. At least this dealer doesn't seen to give a damn.:banghead:

I'm sure the bushing is the same as any 4wd ea81 or ea82. Ask for a bushing for an early 90's loyale, maybe that will help. BTW on mine it's the one round bushing hanging the front of the diff up.

Thanks,

What engine type is in the 82?

'87 GL 4WD D/R 5spd Right as I start or stop, intermittant. My indie checked everything and couldn't find anything loose or worn out. Feels like it's mid car, somewhere. Been around for 5K or so, getting no worse. I have new U-joints, CVs, etc. No loose rims.
