head gasket re-torquing

Featured Replies

Hey everyone.

I just got my EA81 back together!!!! :D and its working :D !!!!!!

So I was just wondering when I should re-torque the new head gaskets... I heard/read somewhere that about 1000KM is right. But I'm not too sure. The gaskets don't say anything on the packaging. Just wondering what fellow subie nuts do!

IT RUNS !!! IT DRIVES!!! gotta see if it still offroads now :D :D :D!!! can't belive its working again. Its been over a month of trying to get it working. I've taken the engine out. Had to fix a CV joint after it poped out while jacking the gearbox up. I think I finally fix the exhuast stud problem. I'll post about that some other time. I still can't belive it is working. Though that old EA81 would never kick it up again :-\:)

FSM says to re torque after heating to operating temp and leaving running for 10 mins.

That's great! I dread the day my head gaskets go.

My headgaskets didn't go. My exhuast studs did. So I had to take both heads off and get them welded, thats the ULTRA short version of the story anyhow.

Hopefully after re-torquing and re adjusting my tappets I will be able to put the rocker covers on without them leaking...... at the moment I'm kinda using a little oil, nothing to bad tho :) Also gotta fix the coolent leak on the thermo housing.

Wow, why didn't you tap them out to 7/16" and fit Ford studs, lot less trouble and can be done without removing the cylinder heads, cheaper too.
